Overall Concert Review:
Pac Div opened up with amazing showcase. I have yet to see them perform and have only heard very few songs, but they definately had the energy and the moxy to make it in the game. I pretty much held onto the last thing they said which was something to the effect of "Next time we play H.O.B. on sunset were Headlining" look out for us. The way these guys have blossomed with better and better music... I can def. see this in the future
B.O.B. Bobby Ray was a smooth transition and gave a lot of energy bringing that southern funk. He gave us his famous swag/patron freestyle which really stole the crowd to me. The looks on these kids faces... speechless "I will never listen to mainstream again" hah. No, but in all seriousness he brought good music to a crowd that might not have been to familiar with him. He definately opened my eyes to his music.
Kid Cudi pretty much stole the show. Everyone talks about the Kanye glow in the dark tour like it was the mecca of all concerts, I think Kid Cudi picked up on a lot of what Kanye does... During the set Kid Cudi ran through his arsenal of songs leaving everything out there, even his kicks. What impressed me most was his use of the lights and background screen. It really planted a picture to the music and i think took a lot of pressure off his performance. What a great show Cudi put on... A must see for anyone.
Asher Roth had the hardest job coming up after Kid Cudi. I thought Cudi would be headlining but Asher was, funny to me... Asher ran through his set while the blunt smoke filled the air at H.O.B. Sunset. It was cool to see him live, after listening to his CD front to back and reviewing it [Check it out Here] I could definately vibe to his tracks. What I really noticed in his set was his ability to be one with the crowd and actually engage person by person. Having a white hype man was also some new shit for me.
Thoughts: Great show all in all, but what did suprise me was the fan base. I would have to say 90% white highschool males. I was definately shocked at how young the kids were and how hip-hop has changed so drastically. It definately puts hip-hop into perspective and the way it has grown from the urban underground to the pop mainstream. |
